Why does concrete in KCK depend on which side of the Kaw you are on?
Concrete in Kansas City, Kansas is two jobs on two grounds. Armourdale and Argentine sit on Kaw River alluvium layered with a century of industrial fill. Strawberry Hill, Quindaro, and Piper sit on upland clay. What lasts is decided by the subgrade under the slab, not the mix in the truck — so every address here gets evaluated on its own.
In the bottoms the water table is close and the fill is undocumented. Nobody wrote down what went under a lot off Kansas Avenue in 1948, which is why a pour there starts with a proof roll rather than a price. That is the same ground the Fairfax Industrial District and the levee work near Kaw Point sit on, and it is where we see the subgrade failures the city knows it has.
Up on the bluffs the problem inverts. Native clay is stable but seasonal — it swells through a wet spring off Parallel Parkway and shrinks through August, under driveways that are often seventy years old. Wyandotte County frost depth runs about 34 inches, so water that reaches an unsupported edge in January has room to work. Ground first, everything else second.

What we pour across Wyandotte County
One crew, thirteen services, and the same base discipline whether it is a scale pad or a back patio:
- Concrete driveways in KCK — replacement work on the bluffs, where 1950s slabs sit on seasonal clay.
- Parking lots — heavy-duty sections for the Village West and Legends retail traffic, and for industrial lots that see Class 8 trucks daily.
- Warehouse and industrial floors — the interior slab work the Fairfax and Turner Diagonal corridors run on, poured year-round.
- Concrete repair — spall and joint scaling on industrial pads, sounded first so we repair what is actually delaminated.
- Overlays and resurfacing — a fresh wearing surface where the slab under it is still sound.
- Sidewalks and walkways — panel replacement and trip-hazard work in the older neighborhoods.
- ADA ramps — detectable warning upgrades and accessible routes on commercial frontage.
- Curbs and gutters — drainage-driven work, which in the bottoms is not cosmetic.
- Patios and outdoor spaces — Piper and the western neighborhoods.
- Pool decks — slip-resistant finishes and edges that drain away from the shell.
- Stamped concrete — pressed texture on a continuous slab.
- Stained and colored concrete — color that lives in the surface.
- Retaining walls — the bluff grades between Strawberry Hill and the bottoms make these structural, not decorative.
Not sure which one you need? That is a phone call, not a form field.
What seventy years of Wyandotte housing stock leaves behind
The urban core is largely pre-1950s, the western suburbs run 1970s–2000s, and Village West is newer than both. That spread means we are rarely pouring the same job twice. An original driveway in Quindaro is decades past its design life and cracking on clay movement. A 1990s lot off K-7 is not failing structurally — its joints are.
Winter is the accelerant on both. Deicing salt drives surface scaling, and freeze-thaw exploits any edge the base does not support. The repair that works is chosen by what the slab actually is: sound concrete with a tired surface takes an overlay; a slab that has lost its base takes replacement. We sound it before we quote it, because the difference is thousands of dollars and you should not pay for the wrong one.
Who permits concrete work under the Unified Government
Wyandotte County and KCK share one consolidated government, so permits route through the Unified Government Planning department — one desk instead of two, which is genuinely faster than the split jurisdictions elsewhere in the metro. Work in the right-of-way and commercial frontage draws inspection. Kansas sites fall under KDHE for environmental and stormwater requirements, and on industrial parcels near the river that is a real part of the schedule, not a footnote. We pull the permit and we build to what the inspector will actually check.
What we will not do is quote a Wyandotte slab over the phone. In a county where the subgrade can be river fill on one block and native clay three streets up, a number given without an address is a number someone intends to revise later. We would rather look first and be right once.
On proof, we will be straight with you: our named commercial builds — Amazon in Riverside, Taco Bell in Overland Park, the Nortian food-grade facility — are metro projects, not KCK addresses. What KC-metro property owners get here is the same crew that poured those, an 11-year record since 2014, and a 4.9-star average across 29 Google reviews, licensed, certified, and insured. We are about 20 minutes east of Wyandotte County via I-70, and we do the same ground next door in Bonner Springs and Shawnee.

Why Kansas City Trusts Ford Concrete
We Read The Ground First
Alluvium and fill in the bottoms, seasonal clay on the bluffs. We proof roll and evaluate the subgrade before we price a Wyandotte County slab, because the base is what fails first.
Industrial Work Is Our Normal
Heavy-duty pads, warehouse floors, and lots built for Class 8 truck traffic. The crew that pours a fulfillment-center floor pours your driveway to the same base standard.
One Permit Desk, Handled
The Unified Government consolidates KCK and Wyandotte County permitting. We pull it, build to the inspection, and keep the right-of-way work compliant.

Ford Concrete has worked the KC metro since 2014 with a 4.9-star average across 29 Google reviews. Licensed, certified, and insured on both sides of the state line.
