In Raytown there is almost no empty lot left, so most of what we pour is a replacement

Raytown is one of the metro's oldest inner-ring suburbs. Most of it went up in a single wave between 1955 and 1975, which means two things at once: the concrete is old, and the town is full. There is very little open ground left to build on. So most of what we do in Raytown is not a first pour on a blank lot — it is a replacement, torn out and rebuilt in the narrow gap between things that have to stay. A mature tree and its roots. The city sidewalk in the right-of-way. The neighbor's driveway six inches across the property line. A sixty-year-old foundation the new slab has to meet without pushing on it.

The ground underneath is Jackson County Wymore clay — the same expansive clay under Independence and Blue Springs — and after seventy years it has already done most of its moving. The short answer to what makes Raytown different: the challenge here is rarely the soil, it is working clean around what you cannot disturb. Frost runs about 36 inches. We are 15 minutes from our Independence shop by US-350.

The 13 services we run in Raytown, sorted by what the new slab has to fit against

In a built-out town we sort the work by what the new pour has to make peace with, because that is what shapes the job.

The public edge comes first, because it is not yours to move. Sidewalks and walkways, ADA ramps, and curbs and gutters sit in the city right-of-way and take the public grade as a given. Next is the slab you are matching: driveways, concrete repair, and overlays and resurfacing replace what failed while meeting what stays. Then the tree and the grade you cannot move: patios and retaining walls that work around roots and hold a settled yard. The finishes go on last, on ground we have proven: stamped concrete, stained and colored concrete, and pool decks. The rare open commercial pad — parking lots and warehouse and industrial floors — gets built the same careful way. We run the same crew nearby in Grandview and Lee's Summit. Our demolition guide and utility-trenching guide cover the tear-out side of the work.

What is usually in the way of a Raytown pour, and what it changes

Nearly every replacement here has something next to it that stays. These are the four we plan around most, and how each changes the job.

What is in the wayThe constraint it puts on the pourWhat we do
Mature tree roots in and under the slabRoots lift and crack panels and cannot simply be cutPrune roots only within what keeps the tree healthy, isolate the slab, and rebuild the base so it rides over movement
The city sidewalk and curb in the right-of-wayThe public walk sets the grade and the city reviews work in itMatch the public grade and pull the right-of-way review before we cut
The neighbor's slab at the property lineYou cannot undercut or crowd a slab you do not ownForm a clean isolation joint at the line so each slab moves on its own
An old attached slab or the house foundationA new pour tied hard to the old one telegraphs its cracksIsolate the new work from the building so foundation movement stays out of it

Every row is the same discipline: replace what failed without disturbing what did not.

Raytown permits, right-of-way review, and what we can honestly claim

Raytown handles permits through its Community Development department, and work in the public right-of-way — sidewalks, curbs, and driveway approaches — gets an additional review on top of the standard permit. Most Raytown jobs are small replacements, so the Missouri land-disturbance rule that kicks in at an acre through the MoDNR rarely applies here. This is the Missouri side, and the state line does not travel with us.

We keep the record straight. The 350 Highway corridor revitalization is the city's work, not ours, and no national brand we built is in Raytown. The nearest is the Amazon facility we poured in Riverside; the Taco Bell is in Overland Park and the Domino's in Independence, and dressing any of them up as Raytown work would be a lie. What this town gets is a crew that replaces old concrete clean in a tight lot. See how we handle a driveway replacement or read our story. Call (816) 721-1699 for a free estimate in Raytown.

Why Raytown Trusts Ford Concrete

We Work Clean In Tight Spots

Raytown is built out, so a replacement happens between a tree, a curb, and the neighbor's slab. We protect what stays and rebuild only what has failed.

We Isolate The New From The Old

A new slab tied hard to an old one inherits its cracks. We form isolation joints at property lines and foundations so each slab moves on its own.

We Handle The Right-Of-Way

Sidewalks and curbs sit on city ground and need review. We match the public grade and pull the right-of-way approval before we cut anything.

Honest About Our Record

The 350 Highway work is the city's, and no national brand we built is in Raytown. The nearest is the Amazon job in Riverside, and we will say so.

Trusted by National Brands

From your driveway to an Amazon warehouse — the same crew, the same standards, every project.

Commercial Concrete in Raytown

Raytown's commercial corridors along 350 Highway and 63rd Street carry a mix of independent restaurants, auto service tenants, and small retail centers that all lean on the same concrete fundamentals: parking lots that drain right, ADA approaches that pass inspection, and dumpster pads that don't crack under weekly pickup loads. We also pour building pads and loading slabs for the light industrial tenants tucked along Blue Ridge Cutoff and Raytown Road. Ford Concrete is just 7 miles from our Domino's Pizza project in Independence — essentially the next exit over — which keeps cost and schedule tight for Raytown clients. If you manage a multi-tenant center or run a local restaurant group, start with our retail concrete page or get a quote on ADA ramps and compliance for your next turnover.

Raytown Concrete FAQs

Why is most concrete work in Raytown replacement instead of new?
Because Raytown filled in between 1955 and 1975 and there is almost no open ground left. The original driveways, walks, and patios are now 50 to 70 years old, past any concrete's design life, so the demand is tearing out failed slabs and rebuilding them — usually in a tight gap between a mature tree, the city sidewalk, and the neighbor's property line.
Can you replace my driveway without damaging my tree or my neighbor's slab?
That is most of what we do here. We protect the tree, prune roots only within what keeps it healthy, and rebuild the base so the new slab rides over root movement. At the property line we form an isolation joint so your slab and the neighbor's each move on their own instead of dragging each other.
Do I need a permit for sidewalk or curb work in Raytown?
Work in the public right-of-way — the sidewalk, curb, and approach — gets additional review through the city's Community Development department, on top of the standard permit. We match the public grade and pull that review before we cut, so the replacement passes inspection the first time.
